ART ACTIVITY 10

K-5 Art Activity 10

Virtual Free Choice Day!

This week I really wanted to see what everyone would make if I gave you looser guidelines on what to make. Then it reminded me of our Free Choice Art days we would earn in the art room before quarantine so this week it is your choice what you make.

Take your time and try not to rush!

If you are having trouble of thinking of what to do think about the activities we had in our actual free choice days:

  • Clay

  • Drawing Videos

  • Music/show that you draw along to

  • Coloring tools

  • Paper

  • Scraps

  • Folding

  • Building

Alternative Assignment: (For students who want to make something for the Virtual Art Show)

**Please note if you already handed in artwork into the art show box on one of our free choice days this past school year, please complete the other assignment instead of this one :)

**If you know for a fact that you didn’t hand anything in during the school year for the end of the year art show you can opt to create a work of art for the virtual art show that will be available to view next week on the last week of school!

**This is not a requirement!! If you don’t remember if you handed anything in or not it is totally fine!! I just wanted to add this just in case any of the students do happen to want to make something for it or remember distinctly whether they added something to their art show boxes in a prior art class this year.

ART ACTIVITY 9 (MAY 27TH)

Week 11: Art Activity 10

K-5

This week's art activity is short and sweet and should be fun too! All you have to do is go outside and draw one of your favorite outdoors spaces, trees, playgrounds or a secret spot that is special to you. Try to draw this while you are there!!

If you can’t go outside, look out the window and draw your favorite view! This should look like a landscape but it should also be a drawing of exactly what you see, you don’t need to make it look like a traditional landscape, it can be anything you see that is outdoors and special to you!

Things you need:

  1. Things to make this easier, a clip board, or piece of cardboard or a hardcover book for a hard surface to draw on. You can always draw on a picnic table or a hard spot anywhere you can find!

  1. Piece of paper or something to draw with

  1. Take a walk, find your favorite local, neighborhood, or back yard spot and draw!!

Create a Snail in any way you’d like! (Draw, Sculpt, Collage, Paint, Build, Anything!)

Please watch my attached YouTube playlist of new videos for creation tips, tricks and knowledge on all things Snail!  And one additional funny video to bring some laughs your way.

If you have already created a snail in a past grade level year, please add extra details and a background,  this way we are building off of our learning from previous years in art!

3rd, 4th, 5th -  Pileated Woodpecker

Create a Pileated Woodpecker in any way you’d like! (Drawing will be the most straight-forward way to create this, but I welcome any and all interpretations!)

** If I already taught this in a Zoom meeting with your class (Bennett/Abbott), please try the drawing again, or complete a more detailed version of the snail creation project!

** I created and recorded a new YouTube video on drawing the Pileated Woodpecker, I also added an informational video on the Pileated Woodpecker in the playlist as well!!

(K, 1st, 2nd!)

Blind contour drawing can be turned into art inspired by Alexander Calder

  1. Find an object, person, face, or nature scene to draw

  2. Stab a pencil through a paper plate, or keep your eyes off your drawing!

  3. Only look at the object or subject of your drawing, don’t look at your paper or pick up your drawing hand!

  4. Have a good laugh, feel inspired, make some more blind contours!

*Please also look at the artwork of Alexander Calder! I included a video on my YouTube playlist It is important to tie what we are doing to the work of this great artist!

** Please try to do multiple blind contour drawings, they take only a few seconds to create one!

*** Have fun and show someone you love the fun of Blind Contour!!

****Mr. Brown has also created an original YouTube video to accompany this project!!

3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Art Activity 6

A curator is a person who works in a museum, they organize and plan the layout and feel of how works of art will be displayed in the museum.

A still-life is an arrangement of objects that are put together to use as objects to draw or paint.

We are going to:

1.) Use our curator brains to find beautiful or meaningful objects in our home.

2.) Set up an arrangement or "still-life" with them.

3.) Draw what you see!

*A video has been added to my YouTube for this project! Click the link below to watch!

Iron Blue Vase 2015

ART ACTIVITY 5 (WEEK OF APRIL 20TH)

5th 4th and 3rd -

Artists use a variety of materials to create art. Find different materials at home to create a sculpture.

This sculpture does not need to be able to stand! You can even use the floor to stack materials and take a picture of the finished product. Not all sculptures are permanent!

I posted a video on my YouTube explaining how I make sculptures and how you can too!

There's no wrong way to create this project! You do not need to make a sculpture of a flower it can be anything you choose!

K, 1st, 2nd-

Artists look at other examples of art.

How many examples of art can you find in your home?

Create  a treasure map that leads you to the art in your home, or create a treasure map from an imaginary land!

I posted a how to draw treasure map video on my YouTube playlist, its just for fun and can be used to inspire their creations!

Please remember it can look like your own version! It does not have to look anything like the one featured in the video! : )

ART ACTIVITY 4 -- NYC BOTANICAL GARDEN

This week in Mr. Browns virtual art room I'd like to share a really cool video I found on a virtual tour of the NYC Botanical Garden. Please create in any way you can (Draw, Paint, Collage, Sculpt, Build) a flower of your choice from the video. If you can't watch the video please try to draw an orchid specifically. If you cannot access photos of orchids just draw a flower!

Henri Rousseau was a famous painter who painted in botanical gardens on a regular basis. Could you Imagine being able to paint inside of the NYC botanical garden?!
